Services

Upper Great Southern Family Support Association Inc. has grown quite considerably since its commencement and now offers a variety of services for people with a disability to help them be included in the community.  These services include;

Alternatives to Employment / Post School Options
Intensive Family Support (IFS)
Accommodation Support Funding (ASF)

Alternatives to Employment / Post School Options

The Alternatives to Employment (ATE) program of which Post School Options (PSO) is a part of, seeks to ensure that people with a disability, who require an alternative to paid employment, have access to a range of opportunities and activities which are similar to those undertaken and enjoyed by other community members of the same age, gender and background.

A person centred plan is developed with individuals to help them achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations.

The staff at UGSFSA is constant in promoting the “valued” status of people with a disability in the local community and achieves this by developing a plan that promotes social participation, personal independence, life-long learning skills and natural support networks.

UGSFSA is endorsed by the Disability Services Commission to provide ATE/PSO.

Intensive Family Support (IFS)

Here at UGSFSA the importance a family or carer has in their role as being the main source of support for an individual with a disability is acknowledged.  Sometimes this role extends beyond normal capabilities.  UGSFSA is dedicated to supporting the family and carer in tailoring support services to meet the increased need(s) of each individual.

IFS is also used to assist individuals to continue living independently with a plan specifically developed to meet the identified support needs.

Accommodation Support Funding (ASF)

Accommodation Support Funding is a response to the critical need for accommodation support options for individuals with disabilities.  It addresses concerns by families for secure ongoing support for their sons and daughters when they can no longer care for them.

Accommodation support involves the provision of personal care, support and/or supervision to enable people with disabilities to carry out essential activities of daily living.

Accommodation support may vary in duration from a few hours a week through to 24 hours a day taking into consideration out of home respite.

Accommodation support may be provided as part of an individual option or within a group setting.

The focus of Accommodation Support is to;

  1. Support people with a disability to live in the community in a home environment as close as possible to that enjoyed by other community members.
  2. Enable the person with a disability and their families to have a choice of support providers.

UGSFSA will achieve this by providing support in a positive living environment that is safe and secure.  This support will maintain and enhance the emotional and physical health and well-being of people with disabilities while maximising independence, offering a wide range of ordinary living and community experiences.  Coordination will be provided to access other needed services and build and maintain connections between people with disabilities and their families, extended families and friends.
